What are the best types of Flat Roof for your needs?

Felt Roofing

Felt is one of the most popular types of flat roof used materials for flat roofing. It is typically used for sheds, garages, flat roof extensions as well as flat roof Dormers.

Felt roofing is lightweight. It is also relatively inexpensive and if installed well can out live the 10 year guarantee. This would be the better option if your budget is very tight.

EPDM – Single Ply Roofing

EPDM is an extremely durable, synthetic, low maintenance rubber roofing membrane that looks good. The two primary materials Ethylene and Propylene are derived from oil and natural gas.

EPDM is very lightweight, therefor the roof deck does not need reinforcement. EPDM also has very few seems, so leaks are rare. The roofing material is available in black or white and is highly weather resistant.

Rubber roof coatings also prevent harmful rays such as infrared, radiation and UV Rays and when properly installed can last for 50 years or more.

Alwitra – Single Ply Roofing

Single ply roofing is lightweight and Alwitra is a great product as it is long lasting and has a clean sharp look.

Alwitra is a high quality synthetic membrane for single ply sealing with optimal waterproofing, the membrane also remains flexible.

Alwitra covering is compatible with all insulation boards and is Bitumen compatible. The covering comes in a range of colours and has a smooth surface that does not retain dirt. Alwitra is also great for roof gardens because it is resistant to root penetration. The material can also be recycled.

Ashphalt Roofing

Probably the biggest reason why Asphalt roofing shingles are so popular is because they are the most affordable roofing option.

There are two types of asphalt shingles, Organic and Fiberglass. Asphalt coats both types to make them water proof. A fiberglass shingle’s interior is made with a thin mat of glass fiber. Organic shingles are made with a mat fabricated from some kind of wood product, usually waste paper.

If properly installed, asphalt shingles will protect your home for about 20 years.

Absolutely fantastic from start to finish, quick and reasonable quote with lots of detail, plenty of communication about the job start and then the job itself was simply magical, I don’t know how they’ve done it but its almost impossible to tell that there were 2 chimneys there before. Our neighbour had their chimneys taken down by another company last year and its really unsightly where the chimneys were and we were expecting the same but our roof is now pristine. They are true craftsmen and obviously care about the work they do. They did a very good job stripping, insulating and replacing 3 flat roofs at our house 3 years ago – 2 dormers and a porch. Yesterday I had a tile come away as the nibs failed. I texted Adam with a photo and asked if he could help as I did not have a disc cutter for trimming the spare tile I had and my ladders were not suitable to get near enough to replace the tile. He came today while I was away, did the repair and texted me at work to say all done. He did not want payment as he said “it didn’t take too long” yet he came from Bournemouth. What a service – cannot recommend Adam highly enough – honest, courteous, tidy and does what he say he’ll do – A rare thing with some tradesmen these days.
